Cosmetic Surgical Procedures
Cosmetic surgery are types of surgeries that include surgical and non-surgical procedures. The main aim of a cosmetic surgery is to enhance, improve and reshape different parts of a human body that augments appearance and boosts the confidence level of patients. It is opted by those people who are not comfortable in their skin and want to improve certain part of their body to feel confident about their appearance. Cosmetic surgeries are rapidly growing in popularity each year for the sole reason that they give the patient an ability to change or improve what they do not like about their appearance. Women are not the only ones inclining towards cosmetic surgeries. Men are also contributing to flourish the cosmetic surgery industry.
Risks and Repurcussions:
Like any other surgery, cosmetic surgery also comes with its risks and repercussions. Some surgeries even have permanent outcomes so it is very important for individuals to make the right decision for themselves as there will be no reversal once the surgery is done. In the past few years new technologies have been introduced in the field that involve minimally invasive procedures. As a result, patients have to go through less pain, less scarring and a quick recovery time.
Cosmetic Surgery v/s Plastic Surgery:
Cosmetic surgery is very commonly confused with plastic surgery. Although both these surgeries deal with improving a person’s appearance, cosmetic surgeries only involve improving the aesthetic appeal of an individual. Whereas plastic surgery includes reconstructing and reshaping body defects that are usually due to birth defects, accidents, burns, diseases etc.
Types of Cosmetic Surgeries:
Cosmetic surgeries include a variety of aesthetic procedures that improve the appearance of individuals which includes:
Liposuction and Abdominoplasty:
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that is usually performed to get rid of the excess fat that doesn’t seem to tone down through diet and exercise. The procedure can be performed on various body parts including hips, belly, thighs, buttocks, back, arms or even face to improve their shape. Abdominoplasty, commonly known as tummy tuck, is often confused with liposuction. It flattens the abdomen by removing extra fat and skin and it also tightens the muscles in the abdominal wall whereas liposuction only involves removing of excess fat.
Breast Augmentation and Reduction:
Breast augmentation or enhancement is also referred to as ‘Augmentation Mammaplasty.’ It is usually done by two methods which is either by using implants or fat transfer to enhance the breasts. Breast reduction is also called ‘Reduction Mammaplasty.’ It is performed to remove excess breast tissue and skin to achieve a size that is in proportion with the rest of the body and alleviate discomfort to the individual.
Breast lift also called ‘Mastopexy’ is the procedure of raising sagging and de-shaped breasts of women. It raises the breasts by removing excess skin and also tightens the surrounding tissue to reshape the new breast thus modifying the size and contour of the breasts. This type of surgery is also opted by some men.
It is a condition in men which involves the enlargement or swelling of breast tissue in males usually caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone. Lipo-curretage is the procedure which is then used to remove the excess fat and glandular tissue to restore a flatter and firmer male breast.
Facelift or Rhytidectomy is a procedure that aims to give a youthful appearance to individuals by removing excess facial skin. It also clears the deep creases around the neck and chin to give a rejuvenated look.
Cosmetic arm lift or Brachioplasty:
It is a procedure to provide a better contour to the upper arm and connecting area of the chest. It includes the removal of fat by liposuction or surgery. In this process, loose skin is removed from the back of the arms to give it a firmer look.
Chin reduction/ Enhancement (Mentoplasty):
It is a surgical procedure performed to reshape the chin by either augmenting or reducing it. It adds proportion to the chin thus providing balance to other facial features.
Saddlebags and Thigh Lift:
Liposuction is performed mostly on the inner thighs to eliminate excess fat which is commonly called ‘Saddlebags.’ Deposits of fat in the thigh area are eliminated to get the desired result. Thigh Lift is a surgical procedure that is performed to tone and sculpt the thigh area. Loose skin accumulated around the thigh area due to aging or weight fluctuation is eliminated to contour the thighs.
Scar Revision Surgery:
Scar Revision surgery is performed to minimize the appearance of scars so that it becomes less conspicuous and blends with the rest of the skin. It also restores disfigurement of the skin caused by an injury, wound or previous scars.
All these surgeries have become quite popular among masses and they do not have any reservations regarding the results of these surgeries that they previously had. Cosmetic surgeries have made it possible for people to confidently experiment with their looks to get the desired results.
Fat Transfer, also widely known as Fat Injection, is a procedure where fats are extracted from one part of the body and then injecting them into another part. This is usually done to add volume or reshape parts of the body as per the patients’ demand.
Effects of this procedure could include bruising, swelling and temporary numbness in the human body.
